Swisslog forum rules (revised 22 August 2007)
Greetings!
Walter HB9BJS and I started this forum in the summer of 2004 to provide and alternative to the old "forum", after having numerous problems with a couple a members who made things very hard for everyone, by insulting and/or ridiculing its users, the programmer and the software. Something had to be done about that; and Walter decided to purchase an IPB forum license. The IPB forum software allows us to control such malicious users, and deal with them in a way that makes them behave. But it also has many, many nice features that brought the old Swisslog forum into the 21st century!
The new forum that you're visiting today has been running great for a little over 3 years. We've had relatively few problems with users (and spammers); but when there were problems they were big enough to apply serious actions. It seems that some people believe that the rules don't apply to them; and so this is clearly the time to revise the rules.
There are very few rules. But, not following them will get you in trouble. A first, second, and even third offense will get a simple slap on the wrist; repeat offenders will be dealt with the hard way.
By signing up for and/or using this forum you agree to follow the rules. If you don't you will face actions to correct your non-compliance.
Becoming a member
When you sign up for the forum, you will be asked to provide your call sign (or SWL number). If you don't know what a call sign or SWL number is then just leave; because that means that you have no business here. If you don't provide a call sign or SWL number you will be asked for it, by myself or another administrator. If I (we) don't get a decent reply to that request then you will be denied access to the forum.
After your registration you will be sent an email by the forum software, to verify your email address. This is to avoid spammers from signing up. If you don't reply to that email within one week you will be denied access, because at that time we assume that your email address is fake. We will resend that validation manually a couple of times, if necessary, in that one week period, but not forever. It is up to you to provide a good working email address.
Moderation
New members will automatically be put on the "moderated" list. This means that your initial posts will not be published immediately; but instead will be read by an administrator or moderator, and - if approved - will then be released. This is another defense against spammers; and as soon as we are convinced that you're not a spammer you will be taken off the moderated list.
However, other users can be added to the moderated list as well. If you break the rules by, for example, making rude remarks, you will be put on this moderated list until you demonstrate that you can control your hormones and your remarks. Repeat violators may be put on the moderated list permanently.
Currently 4 users have the ability to moderate posts: HB9BJS, DL6LZM, myself and a 4th moderator who wishes to stay anonymous.
Content
This forum is "for the user, by the user". In short, that means we're all here to help one another: someone asks a question; and others answer it. If you have the answer to someone's question, then we expect you to post it on the forum. Replying to a question in private (through the PM or email system) solves that particular user's problem; but only leads to the same question being asked over and over again.
Inappropriate behavior
Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated, and will be dealt with swiftly. Inappropriate behavior includes, but is not limited to: insulting other users, making fun of other users, abuse of the forum software, or any other rule quoted here. Insulting any user of the forum will be cause for removal and banning from the board. Other offenses will result in removal of certain user privileges, and will put you on the moderated list.
Discussions
The goal of this forum is not only to help others with problems they have with the Swisslog software; but also to discuss various other, amateur radio related issues. In every discussion we expect that you conduct yourself in a mature, civilized manner. If/when discussions get out of hand the administrators or moderators will step in, and take every action necessary to guide the discussion in the right direction.
Special privileges
Certain members and good contributors to the forum may get special privileges from the administrators. These privileges are intended to reward them for their hard work and excellent user support on the forum, a special skill they possess, or a lifetime contribution to the Swisslog project. These users deserve a little extra credit, and we expect that you treat them with the respect they deserve.
Unfortunately, in the past some members have abused these special privileges. Therefore, the administrators will take these privileges back, if they think it's necessary. No warnings will be given; those with special privileges are expected to have a better understanding of what's acceptable and what's not.
File uploads
Members in good standing have the ability to upload files, such as images, avatars or zipped files with varying content. Users are expected to make sure these files are virus free and/or do not link to malicious content. After 20+ years of personal computers, we are not accepting any excuses about this.
Illegal acts
Discussions of and/or offerings of "keygenerators" and/or cracked versions of Swisslog and other software are prohibited. Anyone who does that will be removed and banned, and reported to the anti-piracy organizations.
Beta versions
There are a number of beta versions of Swisslog going around the internet. Those beta versions were never intended to be released to the public by Walter HB9BJS, but only to a limited public, for very good reasons. We expect that you respect Walter's wish; and - if you're one of those beta testers - keep these beta versions to yourself.
Copyrighted material
Distribution of the Swisslog program and support files, other than those created from scratch by yourself, is allowed by Walter Baur HB9BJS only. Copyrighted materials include, but are not limited to, the program, parts of code, logos, etc. Violators will be reported to local and international copyright authorities.
We reserve the right to revise these rules at any time. It is up to the user to keep up to date with changes.
I hope I have your cooperation. Enjoy the Swisslog forum!
